Christ said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’ (John 8:12)
This is almost universally misinterpreted to mean Jesus was beseeching us to follow his example as a person. However, whenever Christ refers to himself in the Bible, he refers to himself not as a person but as the embodiment of formless awareness. He was saying whoever knows themselves as awareness (rather than belief) will walk, without resistance, through whatever life brings.
Awareness is something we've given ourselves very little time for. Thank you for that reminder. I had a much loved Christmas card from a Quaker friend that said "Build longer tables, not higher walls."
Right on. Thanks Mike!
