Many years ago,
as a young seeker of the way,
You sat for hours in half-lotus
(never could do full).
You bowed to the Buddha,
chanted Prajna Paramita
and vowed to awaken
for the sake of all living beings.
This morning,
like an old fool,
having neither gained
nor lost a thing,
You sit quietly
listening to the crows
and your beating heart.
